Ingredients

  • 1 package (16 ounces) of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 cups of walnuts (finely chopped)
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine chopped walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly.
  • Brush melted butter on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking pan. Layer one sheet of phyllo dough, brushing lightly with butter. Repeat with 8 sheets.
  • Sprinkle one-third of the walnut mixture over phyllo. Layer 4 more sheets of phyllo with butter in between.
  • Repeat layering with the filling two more times and finish with a final layer of phyllo.
  • Cut the layered phyllo into diamond-shaped pieces before baking.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
  • Prepare the syrup by boiling water and honey for about 10 minutes, adding vanilla extract.
  • Immediately pour the syrup over hot baklava and allow it to cool completely.
