In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly.Once your yeast mixture is ready, add melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well before gradually adding in the flour and salt.Transfer your dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.Form a ball with your dough and place it in a greased bowl. Cover it and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.Punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle (about 16×24 inches). Add your filling of choice and roll it up tightly.Shape the rolled dough into a circle by bringing the ends together. Pinch to seal and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.Cover the shaped cake with a cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).Bake your King Cake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.While it’s baking, make the icing by whisking powdered sugar with enough milk to achieve a drizzling consistency.Once the cake is cooled, drizzle the icing over the top and sprinkle with colored sugar in alternating bands.
