Ingredients
Scale
1 lb flank steak (or substitute with sirloin or ribeye)
1/4 cup soy sauce (use low-sodium for a healthier option)
2 tablespoons brown sugar (honey or maple syrup can work too)
1 tablespoon sesame oil (adds a nutty flavor)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch ginger, grated
1 tablespoon rice vinegar (apple cider vinegar is a great alternative)
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (omit or reduce for less spice)
1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnishing)
1 head of butter lettuce or romaine lettuce leaves (for wrapping)
1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
1 carrot, julienned
Fresh cilantro and green onions (for garnish)
Instructions
In a medium mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Whisk until sugar fully dissolves.
Slice flank steak against the grain into thin strips. Add beef to marinade, ensuring all pieces are coated. Cover and marinate for at least 15 minutes or up to 2 hours.
Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook marinated beef for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until desired doneness is reached.
After cooking, let beef rest. Assemble wraps with a lettuce leaf, beef strips, cucumber slices, julienned carrots, and fresh herbs. Top with sesame seeds.
