Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, freshly grated
  • 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 crusty sandwich rolls or sesame seed buns
  • 1 cup coleslaw mix (cabbage, carrots, and green onion)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha (optional, for heat)
  • Fresh cilantro or sesame seeds, for garnish

  • Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, gochujang, rice vinegar, and black pepper. Mix well until the sugar dissolves.
  • Place the sliced steak in a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag and gently massage it to ensure the steak is evenly coated. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes.
  • Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Remove the steak from the marinade and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked to your liking.
  • Mix the mayonnaise and sriracha in a small bowl.
  • Slice the rolls in half and spread the sriracha mayo generously on both sides. Layer on the cooked steak, top with coleslaw mix, and sprinkle cilantro or sesame seeds for garnish.
  • Serve warm, and pair with kimchi or spicy pickles if desired.
