Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended for juiciness)
Salt and pepper to taste
4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Optional: Diced onions for added flavor
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal (for texture)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water (adjust as necessary)
2 tablespoons olive oil
Optional: Spices like cumin or paprika for seasoning
Shredded lettuce
Chopped tomatoes
Sour cream or Greek yogurt
Guacamole
Salsa or hot sauce
Chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add water and olive oil, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Knead for about 2-3 minutes.
Divide the dough into equal portions (about 8 for standard taco size). Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into a thin disk, about 1/8 inch thick. Place these disks on a lightly floured baking sheet and use a fork to poke holes in them.
Bake the taco shells in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden and crispy. Allow to cool slightly.
In a skillet over medium-high heat, add your ground beef. Sear for about 1 minute without stirring, then smash down until about 1/2 inch thick. Cook for another 2-3 minutes and season with salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Add diced onions if desired.
Flip the patties and place a slice of cheese on top of each. Cover loosely to allow cheese to melt while the patty finishes cooking, about 3-4 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Carefully place the smashed burger patties into the taco shells. Top with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and cilantro.
Notes
Smash Burger Tacos combine the satisfying crunch of tacos with the juicy flavors of smash burgers, made in about 90 minutes.
