- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F)
- ¾ cup baking soda (for boiling)
- 2 cups smoked brisket, finely chopped
- 1 cup beer cheese (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt (to taste)
Instructions
- Begin by activating the yeast. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until combined. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let it rise for 30 minutes.
- Prepare the filling by combining the smoked brisket and beer cheese in a bowl. Mix well.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Divide the risen dough into 12 equal pieces, flatten each piece, and place a tablespoon of filling in the center. Fold the dough and pinch it closed.
- Boil 8 cups of water with baking soda. Boil the pretzel balls for about 30 seconds per side. Remove and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
